- Originally from Northeast Kansas, Jason brings with him over 17 years of college-level teaching experience as well as multiple degrees in the fields of both filmmaking and education. He is currently a Visiting Instructor of Communication, Digital Arts, and New Media at Southwestern College where he also acts as the faculty advisor for the eSports team and the campus Film Club. In the past he has taught courses in digital media for Bryan College (Topeka, Kansas), Emporia State University (Emporia, Kansas), Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA), the University of Central Arkansas (Conway, AR), William Woods University (Fulton, MO), and Georgia Southern University (Statesboro, GA). Jason's current filmmaking interests include writing and directing screenplays with strong female lead characters whose journeys transcend the genres of action-adventure films, science fiction, and romantic comedies. He is an expert in the cinematography, lighting, editing, and sound design of both narrative films and documentaries. Jason endeavors to bring a unique perspective to the education of motion pictures by engaging undergraduates and graduate students in critical pedagogy - the curricular integration of cinema history & theory with the filmmaking practice - and by inspiring his students to explore how the visual narrative of cinema and the cross-disciplinary aspects of the filmmaking process apply to collaborative learning in all fields. In his spare time, Jason enjoys running, skiing the slopes, researching and shooting photos of abandoned old derelict towns, and the occasional short-range road trip.
