When I teach cinema, I am often asked, the students ask me, “How do I become a film director?” This seems to be their main concern. I tell them what they have to know. All the languages. They have to know psychology. They have to know psychiatry. They have to know the arts of the world. They have to know the cultures of the world. Then they ask me, they say to me, “Well, you didn’t know all this when you started.” I say, “I never asked anyone how to become a film director.”
