I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes here, but I can’t imagine using any Apple product for production work. For surfing the web, listening to music or playing Angry Birds, sure, but I stopped using Macs for real work fifteen years ago.

The trick, the hard part, is getting to the right performance. Once an actor gets there, they can usually repeat it (if they’re any good). So in my book, you do what it takes to get there, keep rolling, many takes, whatever. Once you get it, if it’s out of focus or there’s noise, you [...]

I do have one good on-set anecdote. I was 1st ACing a feature. The DP was very experienced, but the AD was pretty green. First shot on the first day and the AD shouts “roll sound, roll camera” and gives this big high energy “action”, like you see in the movies… The DP pulls him [...]

Respectfully, these are common complaints from crew members and they miss the point. I’ve been [...]

D00d. In the movies they never go back inside. They let their curiosity get the better of them and snoop around and stumble onto something they shouldn’t have seen (like the SWAT team was up to no good, or they weren’t a real SWAT team at all…)

Wow, that blew my mind. Anyone here old enough to remember Mad Libs? That’s what that read like to me… “It just which means arises which often a lot of abroad brains professionals…” Nice.

I read the thread quickly so I may have missed some stuff, but in general I think you have more to work with if he’s not editing something random and sees a random effect, but if he’s editing things to be the way he wants them and it turns out it sucks (the definition of [...]

I think Heath Ledger was on his way to becoming a star of that caliber. Of course it’s easy to say that now that he can no longer make a bad movie. James Franco and Joseph Gordon-Levitt may make it onto the list someday. But for women, you’re right, no one has had “it” since [...]

Actually, 115 million dollars worth of people wanted to see that remake. And a lot of good films start out as shorts: Bottle Rocket, Sling Blade, 9, THX 1138, even Toy Story (sort of). If you’re a writer/director or part of a writer/director team, [...]
