The images then increase in focal length (higher zoom) while moving away from the subject to keep the same framing. The image on the bottom right is 105mm at 12 feet.

This is a decent visual depiction, but even in the original article, the author doesn’t give a full breakdown of the combinations. So, 50-50 in terms of value for aspiring cinematographers.
Having the numbers wouldn’t necessarily help either, the most important thing is the compression concept, everything else can be judged by eye.
