    Hello peeps,

I am new to the site – below is a short film called “5 Year Dream” that I helped produced with a couple of buddies of mine here in Dallas, TX. We did this literally on a zero dollar budget and shot the film strictly on DSLR cameras. We lost all audio on set and had to go back and ADR the dialogue and recreate the folly. It was a tough to finish the project but we finally got it done. We gave a crack at the film festival circuit and with no acceptance decided to blast it to the masses on line. Please check it out and all feed back is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sophia (Rebekah Bruflodt) and Luis (Julio Alonzo) have been the closest of friends for five years, but unbeknownst to Luis, Sophia has been in love with him since the beginning. That is until after a night of passion; Sophia’s true and delusional feelings are revealed, which leads to an explosive confrontation that will change their lives forever.

Hey Julio! Welcome to the site.

Good looking film but I think the shakicam was a bit too much. I think you could have saved it for the final confrontation.

Was the guy at the beginning the same guy that had the one night stand with the girl? Taking a closer look at the actor, it looks like the same guy but his facial hair changes. It took me a long time to realize I was suppose to be looking at the same guy.

I also felt that the guy’s reaction didn’t feel real. When a girl is pointing a gun at my head saying “Can’t we be a couple” my instinct would be to say whatever I can to get her to put the gun down. Especially since she was a friend of mine…

Can’t wait to see more your work!

    Hey John,

Thanks for taking the time to review our little short. Yeah- the guy in the short was the same guy through out the movie. Actually as the movie progresses you see him actually look younger to older. And what we were hoping to convey is to show him as “punk” looking young man to more sophisticated gentleman as time progresses. And her flashbacks of him are at different times. We were hoping it would show that a realistic time frame of about five years have past. And I totally dig what you are saying regarding the point when she ask him about “Can e be a couple?” question. We should have added more realistic dialogue when that took place during their exchange. Unfortunately, we were so deep the into the production that it was missed. Good eye. I personally liked going with the shoulder mount camera angles when doing emotional an emotional piece like this. I personally feel that it engages the audience’s POV a bit more and adds more depth to feel that they are actually in the scene with the characters. But that’s just me. :) John, this is all really great feedback- thanks again for watching. :)

Just to clarify my thoughts on the shakiness – toward the end especially with the gun in the girl’s hand – the shakicam is totally warranted. Same goes with all the flashback stuff.

But in the scenes just after the party (her giving the champagne to him, and the two talking on the bed)… the wides are locked off but the angles and CUs are shaking for really no reason. The two feel weird next to each other.

I think you could get more impact out of the shakiness if you save it for when things get the most tense.

Seeing it again – I have to ask – what was your motivation to mosaic the necklace?

Well that is sort of a touchy subject. The necklace was giving to me by a friend of mind that past away. I dedicated the film to her at the end of the credits. When we shot the film we never received clearance from the jewelry company to have it OKed. So I wanted to make sure we were covered when placing the link of the film on the web. I also felt it might bring some mystery to the film through symbolism. :) Because no matter what at the end the necklace still haunts him like her memory…
