    I have always had an interest in history, particularly the Revolutionary War. Not that I will make one in the near future… But, what would go into making a Revolutionary War film? Thanks.

    Not sure what you are asking.

    A documentary or a narrative film? Like any period piece, a narrative film about the revolutionary war would need a gigantic budget. A documentary would be cheap but need a really clever angle for anyone to care about it.

    Actually, I’m quite sure that you could reduce the budget if you contacted battle reenactments and asked very kindly if you could film them. But you would be stuck having to film around them. Also, you would still need period locations and costumes (recreations, no one could afford the real thing.)

    I was talking about a narrative. My friend’s dad is big into reenactment stuff (his reenactment group was in the Patriot) so if I did make it I’d ask him for help. But, I was just thinking about it. Thanks anyways.

    Perhaps you should read some literature written at the time and find a story to adapt. They would all be public domain. You should also read war letters written at the time. They are always great stories there.

    Well that covers a big portion of it, but unless you can find the locations and costumes very cheap the budget gets very high very quick. Eventually it gets high to a point that it would be unrecoverable without a name actor in it. So then to get the name actor you need even more money.

    But that is all relative. I could think of a few ways it could be done. Maybe you film one big revolutionary scene with the reenactments, and then the rest of the movie is about a soldier gone AWOL.

    Period piece – sets, wardrobe, language (anachronisms in dialogue can kill you), extra post to rub out phone lines, street signs, airplanes, etc.;

    If there are guns or battle, you need an Armorer (the official title of the gun expert), fight choreographers, etc, etc.

    Basically, an ass ton of research and a boatload of money.

    Armorer? Thought it was gun wrangler.

    Not on any legit film I’ve worked on. It’s a very specific position, requiring specific licenses and courses, and a dedicated pay scale (which may or may not be viewable without IA clearance.)
