Thanks Rich. It’s been really trying my confidence. I’ve been hacking away for 6 months now, dropping 3 long term clients. Two of them involving being cursed out. And, yes, I should have seen the warning signs. This last client was getting set to make a commercial that they thought was “going national” – but [...]

I remembering feeling that way when I killed off a client that was way to much grief for the bucks involved. Remember the moment you gain a client is the moment you start losing them. Sometimes to move forward you got to whack off those low hanging branches of crap that we all seem to [...]

Those of you that know me personally may know that I am going through a sort of personal hell with a long time client turned major a-hole. The whole relationship pretty much ended when the client called me up and yelled at me saying I had “lost my touch” and so forth. I knew he [...]

Well sometimes you can play a festival if you have a friend on the selection committee.
The other thing is, I’ve seen some seriously bad films at festival… so it really doesn’t mean anything…

My usual response is ‘Exposure? You can die from that.’
Oh yeah – ‘Project x will play at festival y.’ You can’t make that promise, because there are no guarantees like that. Unless you have serious pull – which means you’ll also have a budget.

That’s a fun one – favorite spelling errors/’this word does not mean what you think it means’” For aspiring: inspiring, aspirating (good, cause I like my crew breathing), inspring, etc. Reel: real (gotta hate those imaginary promos) I’ll have to dig a little, there are a ton of them. Oh yeah – misspelling/pronouncing my name. [...]

1 This no budget film is going to be in Sundance 2 We have X budget for G&E. Fine it is below my day rate but I will discount the rate to meet your budget. (It works and pays my crew) This seems like a no brainer but in reality they are shopping around so [...]

@Thurman – I’ve had that happen too. It’s a kick in the teeth when you’ve taken pity on someone, brought your own gear for the day, and then they’re paying others.
Yep, I’ve been the sucker.

We have no budget… Some one emailed me this the other day followed by about 2-3 paragraphs of stuff. I didn’t even read it. he followed up the next day and I was just blunt about it… I have enough clients I’m shaking down for money owned… When you say you have no money, I’m just [...]
