  • What’s the last film you sat through?

I haven’t seen it before, but I caught the last 1/2 of RoboCop 2 on TV.

It was like Transformers, for 1990.

You didn’t say it was RoboCop 2 last night. I thought it was RC 1 you where watching. BTW, what where you doing sitting in a hotel room in Vegas watching RC2? :P

Oh…. almost forgot, Down Periscope was on this afternoon. That movie was better than it needed to be.

I didn’t know it was RoboCop 2 until I looked up the synopsis today… I thought RC2 was silly but the premise seemed kinda interesting, so I added RoboCop (original) to the Netflix queue.

And Down Periscope really was one of those films that looks stupider than it was.

I found a couple of 80s B Movies last week. Tuxedo Warrior had to be the worst of them, it was a rip off of Casablanca without any of the things which made the original grea; the acting, directing, writing, etc. were terrible.

The only almost interesting thing about the whole mess was the cameo of James Coburn Jr. Third name on the bill for 5 minutes of screen time.

I watched “One Eyed Monster” last night on one of the movie channels. There where I couple lines that made me laugh, but I think this one joke movie would have been better as a short (no pun intended).

I just saw “You Don’t Know Jack” on HBO.

I had 2 reactions to this film. One, I really didn’t know Jack, and the second, why is it that HBO can continue to create such great films over and over again.

There are countless of examples of films that take on a controversial subjects that feel the need to spoon feed their own point of view to the audience. While there is no shortage of emotion in this film and the opposition is clearly setup as the villains the real question the film asks does that make him a hero or perhaps a martyr. It’s not so much a film about the issue of doctors assisted suicide, it’s about how far you can go fighting injustice before your actions are more damaging than the injustice you are fighting. So is he a martyr? The ending certainly offers a voice to either side of that question, but what really makes it great is I’m still not sure what the answer is.

I feel like I’m not keeping up… a couple of nights ago I made it a point to watch “Wait Till Dark”

I like these one set plays that make it to films – like the Big Kahuna

Not a movie but in my book as good as they come – I finished the last episode of Mad Men Season 2. The show is better than most movies I’ve seen this year.

TV has become a greater influence on me than films…

I watched A Mighty Heart yesterday.

I thought the psuedo-documentary style didn’t allow me to engage with the story, despite it’s true origin and Angelina Jolie’s emotional performance.

Then I went to see Ironman 2, which was damn good.

Says a lot about me, huh?

Ironman 2′s out already??? I need to pull my head out of my… keyboard.

I think the casting of Angelina Jolie was the problem. She did a good job, but turning it into a “star vehicle” took attention away from the story. This is really two films, the detective/police story and the story of a kidnapped victims family. I was engaged during the detective scenes when they where tracking down the terrorists/kidnappers. I was reminded of the Clint Eastwood style renegade cop films but with an interesting twist of a renegade cop operating in a even more renegade system. Irrfan Khan is one of the best actors working today.

Then just when you get pulled into that underground world we go back to Angelina Jolie and everything become deflated.

Not in the US till Friday. I can’t remember when a film this size opened overseas before the US. The markets are changing.

I’ve been on more of a reading than movie stint – working my way through the Dresden Files. A bunch of other stuff as well.
