  • We are in the process of moving over the old group forums and organizing them. What categories do you think we should have?

    I think a little more organization in the order is needed, and I see many of the old topics have been carried forward (Top 7).

    I think it should be organized into 6 sections, Community related categories on top, because the community is the heart of this site.

    Courses, Introduce Yourself, Screening Room, Jobs Employment and Work, Support and Announcements.

    Followed by pre-production;
    The Writer’s Room, Camera Talk, Business School

    Production;
    DIY Filmmaking, [this section seems to be lack looking at current categories, I put camera talk into the later because the set isn't the place to determine what camera. Ideas would be, working with actors, set etiquette, framing, set safety, lighting to enhance performances, cheating etc. {Probably break apart the DIY category as all filmmaking should be DIY}]

    Post Production;
    Cutting Room, Animation

    Marketing and Distribution;
    Film Distribution; Festival Strategies and Deadlines, Marketing your Film, Web Design

    And, an off topic;
    The Balcony, WTF?, Top 7

    Current flow is a little difficult to read, and by organizing it this way, it helps the school brand (start by taking lessons, read discussions/ask questions about pre-production, evolve into production, composite the film, develop the product, and share your war stories).

    There is no real order right now. I’m still sorting hundreds of groups. I would like to keep the forum number to minimum. I was going to do sub-forums, but I don’t want people searching for where to post. Many of these will be merged.

    I think concise is the word of the day, (perhaps, only three categories, the community[Courses, Introduce Yourself, Screening Room, Jobs Employment and Work, Support and Announcements], production [broken into pre, prod, post, marketing/distribution], and off topic [where WTF? and Top 7 are folded into the balcony]

    It maybe too vague when it comes to production categories, but each of those could be broken into hundreds of sub categories which can easily become daunting to someone just looking to ask a question.

    I have updated the forum categories. How does that look?

    Looks good to me, stuff at the bottom will probably get less views, but I think the flow is right and clearly inclusive topics.

    stuff at the bottom will probably get less views

    Are you able to see the Default Forum at the bottom?

    I cannot, will confirm with second browser; it’s blank after Support and Announcements on Firefox and Chrome.

    No need to confirm, you shouldn’t. That is just where we put all the groups while we are moving them. It is set to private. You have special permissions because you are a founding member and live in a nation that has a strategic maple syrup reserve (fact), just was wondering if those permissions allowed you to view it. :P

    That’s good, I was about to start looking at the code to see if a tag broke somewhere, but I started working after that and seen enough code this week already :P
