I love Jimmy Fallon…
I’m of the generation that remembers his SNL days. Unfortunately for me, he was a cast member at the wrong time.
I think SNL goes through a life cycle. When you’re in high school, it’s really cool and hip to stay up late. After High School, staying up late on Saturday looses it’s luster and so SNL can get tiresome. You either stay that way or you learn to accept it for what it is and enjoy it for what it is.
Jimmy Fallon was during my SNL-is-tiresome days. I really disliked him – the way he would always “break” during a scene and the way he wouldn’t even try to mask the fact that he was reading cue cards.
I’ve never given his talk show a fair shake because of it. Though to be truthful, I think his Capital One commercials are excellent. Perhaps like Tina Fey, SNL was the break they needed, but not the place where they would blossom into their potential.
