The Nikon D800 has a lot of things that filmmakers have been clamoring for for years – things like uncompressed HDMI out and low light capability beyond compare. Is this high-stakes DSLR game, it looks like Canon’s rival may start siphoning off HDSLR filmmakers.
Here’s a more indepth look at the capabilities of Nikon’s latest offering:

Well I don’t know about that. Canon had the spot for 3 years and although D800 looks great, Canon is announcing a new 5D this year and a 4k DSLR.
It’s just too early to call.
I don’t believe people will leave Canon for Nikon. Any photographer knows that his real investment is in his glass, not his camera body, and nobody throws away their precious lenses just to get a new body.
Canon folks will just sit tight and wait for the next big thing to come from Canon!
I’ve been using Nikon glass on my Canon 5d for my film stuff. For stuff where auto focus is not an issue, I don’t think it matters.
But for those with investments in glass and want to shoot photos I think they stay pretty brand loyal.
That’s what adapters are for. The body – whatever.
Did anyone watch the shootout that was done with dslrs? There was comments from industry pros that the nikon at low light had more “organic” noise than the canon. They shot and showed all of the outcomes and it was pretty sexy what the nikon did. I bought a canon and invested in canon glass but would go to a nikon if I had the right money.
