Three Point Editing in Final Cut Pro X

I’ve heard of Three Point Shots, Three Point Lighting, Three points of contact… but not Three Point Editing. But apparently you can do it in Final Cut X. Steve Martin shows Mark Spencer the fundamentals of 3-point editing and how to execute a back-timed edit in FCP X.
FYI: Three point editing is placing in a clip into the timeline by defining 3 points in the edit. In the case above, he is defining the (1) the In-Point on the sequence, (2) the Out-Point sequence, and the (3) the In/Out point of the source video.

I guess this is the excuse for getting rid of the canvas monitor?
FCPX: “We’ve given you one preview window for every clip you import! And when ever you click on it it automatically gives you and in and out point! And when you click anywhere else it over rights and updates all pre-existing information you’ve/we’ve already given you!”
Me: “I’d just like you to remember where told you to start at.”
FCPX: “You don’t know what you want, let me decide.”
If you didn’t know what a 3 point edit is, you’re not a very experienced editor.
Or could be you’ve just been doing it a different way, or just been doing it without knowing what it’s called.
Don’t confuse experience with knowing terms.
