Francis Ford Coppola throws in his two cents about the current studio environment.
Coppola, 70, sporting a dark suit, is being interviewed in the Lebanese capital Beirut, where his latest movie “Tetro” opened the Beirut Film Festival after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Those who survive will be those that can adapt to a changing market place. So far it’s seemed the movie studios would rather stifle innovation than embrace it for the benefit of a better movie going experience.
I think Coppola is drinking too much of his own product. It’s not the “industry,” it’s that he hasn’t made a good film in 25 years and not made a great film in 30. Maybe he should stop squeezing grapes and give Robert Evans a call.
I think Coppola and his daughter should make a film together, it could be interesting

Dennis, I think you’re spot on.
Studios are not “trying to make ‘Star Wars’ over and over again. They’re trying to make what they believe the audience wants to see.
That’s a very different thing.
Different generations are in need of different stories. And today, the bulk of the filmmaking audience does not consist of septuagenarians.
So they don’t want to see what Francis Coppola wants to see (let alone MAKE).
It’s interesting to see how both Coppola and Lucas, two of the most celebrated filmmakers of their time, seem so completely frustrated with their achievements.
