The 24p Conspiracy
24p is often sold as a magical button that will transform video into film. It won’t. 24p is merely one small and relatively unimportant part of “The Film Look” and this video graphically presents the definitive argument proving that 24p video doesn’t automatically look like film… but it also makes a decisive argument (or two) for shooting 24p anyhow.
* Updated: YouTube is distributing HD at a frame rate of 29.97, so that is what you should use for YouTube. But who would do something like that?!

Viewer beware, there’s a lot of questionable info in this vid. To paraphrase Stu Maschwitz, “It’s wrong to say 24P will automatically give you that film look. But it’s also wrong to say you will ever achieve the film look without it.”
For filmmakers, 24P is an absolute must-have.
Must have? Hardly.
I really think I must side with Sydney. Far more important to film look is set design, wardrobe and cinematography (especially lighting). A coordinated color palette and cohesive set design that sells emotive value will scream “film” faster than frame rate ever can.
But, I could be wrong…
