(WENN news) Russian officials have taken legal action over a broadcast of comedy cartoon South Park – because the show is deemed too offensive.

Moscow prosecutors have filed suit against Russian channel 2×2 for airing an episode of the hit series in January, which they claim ridicules several major religions.

The episode in question – titled Mr Hankey’s Christmas Classics – has been criticised for being “extremist”. (insert your own joke here)

Valentina Titova, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office, says in a statement, “In accordance with the conclusions made by experts from the court investigations committee, a claim has been filed against 2×2 for its broadcast of an episode of South Park.

“It offends the honour and dignity of Christians and Muslims alike. It could just have easily included Jews, Scientologists, Catholics, Mormons and Moonies all of whom have been mercilessly targeted by American series.”

The prosecutor’s office has sent the case to court and also issued a warning to bosses at 2×2.
